Horniman Museum 26.11.21

History

Our topic this term has been Ancient Benin Kingdom. We have learnt lots in class about the history of what is now called Nigeria, a country in West Africa. We have explored how the kingdom was formed, their way of life, their beliefs and their art. At the museum, we were able to closely observe artefacts from a civilization dating back over 1000 years.

Science

In science we have been learning about living things and classifying different animals. We had to look and find examples of animals from different groups including mammals, fish, birds, amphibians, reptiles and invertebrates.

Art

In art we have been exploring Ancient Benin art including the Benin bronzes and fabric. At the museum we were able to see Ancient Benin artefacts which we sketched into our Art books. We also saw examples of some fabrics made in Nigeria and observed the different patterns

Music

Whilst we were at the museum we explored the instrument exhibition and was able to use the interactive tables to select and listen to a range of different instruments.
