Curriculum Intent

At New Woodlands we aim for every child to be engaged and excited by learning, to become an effective learner and to begin to understand how they learn best. We believe in the concept of lifelong learning and the notion that learning should be a rewarding and enjoyable experience for everyone; it should be fun. Through our teaching we equip children with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to be able to make informed choices about the important things in their lives. We believe that appropriate teaching and learning experiences help children to lead happy and rewarding lives. Our learning and teaching policy is at the heart of all we do. It sets out clear expectations, provides a standard uniform approach, a minimum entitlement for every pupil and can be easily monitored ensuring equal opportunity for all our pupils.

The range of therapies at New Woodlands School are offered on both a structured and self-referral basis to all pupils identified as needing them. They are crucial elements of pupils’ curricula. Counselling, Psychotherapy incorporating art and play therapy, Dramatherapy, Occupational therapy, and Speech & Language therapy, as well as therapeutic pet sessions, are all available as tools to enable pupils to overcome their severe social, emotional, Mental Health needs timetabled flexibly, sensitively and effectively so as to maximise engagement and progress.

If any parent/carer have any questions regarding the curriculum we teach please contact the school directly.
