Autumn Term 1: Visit to Hewitt’s Farm

This term the Nest class have been learning through the topic Sow, Grow, Farm. To enhance their learning we visited Hewitt’s Farm in Orpington in which the children were able observe the seasonal produce grown in UK farms, complete a map by using a key, and see first-hand where the journey of their food begins. The children also had the opportunity to pick their own fruit and vegetables to bring back to school and eat as part of planning a healthy, balanced meal. In art lessons, the children have been learning about Yayoi Kusama as part of their contemporary artist study. They chose their own pumpkin from the farm which they brought back to school to use as the base for their final 3D piece. Upon completing and photographing their art, they were allowed to clean their pumpkin and carve it in time for Halloween.
