Black History Month 2022

New Woodlands School was proud to celebrate in October, Black History Month 2022.

In Humanities, Mr Fernandes ran a Black History Month poster competition. The idea was to design a collage or poster on a famous black person. There were some excellent entries from both Primary and Secondary. So good, they now feature on a display wall outside Mr Fernandes’ classroom! Congratulations to Louis, Alisha, Daisie and DeJuan Richards who all received a £10 voucher.

In Food Technology, pupils over the month have made a variety of Caribbean dishes to include, Rice and peas and Jamaican Patties.

Finally, in Science, pupils worked on profiles of famous black scientists. Below is an example of these fact files by Daisie Howarth in Year 8.

Black History Month is such important month. It gives us a chance to celebrate some famous people who have worked so hard to improve the lives of others.
